A New Homeowner’s Dream: The Paper Illusions Faux Finish Guide
Palmyra, VA October 2, 2008 — Moving residences is considered one of the most stressful activities we Americans endure in our lifetimes, right up there with public speaking and, well, death. So after house-hunting and moving to a new home, we want to love all four walls of our new homes. Instead, we’re usually faced with damaged walls, decrepit paneling, peeling paint or worse. What to do?
Paper Illusions is the answer to a new homeowner’s prayers. For every new kid on the block disheartened with the shape of her walls, Paper Illusions has a beautiful faux finish that turns awful walls into awesome walls. Here’s how it works:
- Paper Illusions comes in rolls that you rip into random shapes, dip in warm water, and apply to the wall. A smoother or sponge removes excess water and paste, and eases the paper around corners. No other tools are needed.
- There is no way to make a mess with Paper Illusions, or to mess up its installation! This beautiful, easy wallpaper is completely foolproof.
- No trimming, pasting or cutting is necessary. Nor are drop cloths, brushes or any special tools.
According to Carrie Wigal, owner of Paper It Fun!, ‘Paper Illusions transforms a room so fast you can complete an entire room in less time than it would take to paint it. And the impact is far more dramatic: From a distance, Paper Illusions gives you the look of marble so authentic you have to touch it to believe. Up close, it looks spectacularly hand-painted.’
Because you don’t need to be an expert to get expert results, new homeowners everywhere have saved time, money and spared themselves aggravation with Paper Illusions. Best of all, you can use Paper Illusions on almost any surface, including paneling (it hides the grooves) and stucco walls. ‘It looks great on backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, ceilings, lampshades, toy chests, waste baskets and, with a few layers of polyurethane, even floors,’ says Wigal.
So relax…. Paper Illusions puts you one step closer to making your new house a true home. Grab your copy of The Paper Illusions Guide and see how easy (and fun) faux finishing with Paper Illusions can be for your new home. The complete line of Paper Illusions products, including boxes, cases, minirolls, samples, sample books and do-it-yourself information can be found online at Wallpaper Illusions.

Do you want to save a lot of time and trouble? Consider these six tips on where to buy wallpaper before making your next purchase.
Whenever making any wallpaper purchase, you should:
Make sure the pattern/color you are purchasing is not discontinued. If it is, you will have a very hard (if not impossible) time trying to find more if needed.
For example some brick & mortar stores may have ordered stock a long time ago. Due to low traffic volume, that stock could have sat on the shelf for ages. It is possible that whatever is being sold might not be available for re-order. Also discontinued merchandise is usually not returnable…even if it is damaged/defective.
Chances are good, however, that if you can find a particular pattern/color in more than one place, then it is probably still a current pattern and readily available.
Make sure the product is first quality…not seconds or damaged goods.
This is especially true if the selling price is extraordinarily cheap or if a consumer instead of a retailer is selling it. Read the rest of this entry »

Need ideas for covering plaster walls?
In our previous home, which we are currently using as a rental property, we had a challenging situation. We had finished the basement to include our master bedroom, bathroom and a nursery, and managed to make it very warm and inviting but the stairwell leading down there was a big problem.
The walls were made of cinder block. While we were able to install sheet rock to mask the cinder block in the basement, the stairwell was too narrow to do the same. Besides being very cold (not welcoming) and basement-like, it was actually painful to go up & down. There was no hand railing, so I would often find myself leaning against the wall as I used the steps carrying something heavy…and it would hurt when my arms would brush up against the wall.
So what were our choices? Read the rest of this entry »
